JoAnn Patrick-Ezzell, Chairman

JoAnn Patrick-Ezzell is one of the co-founders of the GSBI Foundation and serves as Chairman of the Board. She is the President and CEO of Synergistic Systems, a global management consulting firm. Ms. Patrick-Ezzell has more than 30  years of broad international management experience, expertise in telecommunications, and a track record of growing global businesses and championing innovation. She has extensive experience in both Fortune 500 and startup settings.

Prior to joining Synergistic Systems in April 2001, she served as Chairman & CEO of iAsiaWorks, a leading pan-Asian internet hosting provider. Before being recruited by iAsiaWorks, she was President & CEO, AT&T Asia/Pacific, responsible for AT&T's multibillion dollar business throughout the region. 

Ms. Patrick-Ezzell graduated from Bucknell University in 1975 with a bachelor's degree in economics. She served as President of the Association of Bucknell Students. As a Sloan Fellow, she received a master of science in management degree from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 1988.  She serves as a member of the Advisory Board of the Stanford Graduate School of Business Sloan Program. She also completed the International Executive Program at IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland.

She has been a frequent presenter and keynote speaker at international conferences and industry events, including the Asia Pacific Economic Council (APEC), and the Pacific Basin Economic Council (PBEC) and Internet World.  She was a member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and of the Asia Society.  She was inducted into the Academy of Women Achievers in 1992 by the YWCA of the City of New York.

Andrew Ezzell, President & CEO

Andrew Ezzell is President & CEO of the GSBI Foundation and serves as a member of the Board of Directors. Prior to co-founding GSBI with his wife JoAnn, he resided in Hong Kong for seven years where he served as Regional Director of Organization Effectiveness for Asia/Pacific & China for both AT&T and Lucent Technologies. In these positions, he reported to the President & CEO and was responsible for change management, organization improvement, process/quality management, and executive coaching. He also served as a Director at Watson Wyatt Worldwide Consulting, where he managed the Human Capital Group for Hong Kong and China and was responsible for providing consulting services to clients in the area of change management including merger, acquisition and integrations services.

Prior to moving to Asia, Andy was a Managing Director of the AT&T Bell Laboratories, Organization Effectiveness Center in Whippany, NJ. He served in this position for seven years and was responsible for providing management consulting and organization improvement consulting services to the technical community as well as the Executive VP of Human Resources and the Office of the Chairman.

While living in the Washington, DC area, he served as President & CEO of the non-profit American Center for the Quality of Work Life for sixteen years where he consulted to union and management leaders on work place collaboration and quality/productivity improvement issues. In 1978, he founded Synergistic Systems, a global management consulting firm, and currently serves as its Chairman. For eight years, Andy served as Executive Director of the Legal Services Training Program at Catholic University Law School and as Assistant Director of the Legal Services Corporation where he trained legal aid attorneys and their managers. He began his early career at TransCentury Corporation, where he was a senior management consultant specializing in survey research, program evaluation and training.

Andy is an organization psychologist and has three years of advanced training in Neuro Linguistic Programming and is a certified NLP Master Practitioner and Trainer. He holds a MA degree in Management with a major in Human & Organization Behavior from Central Michigan University. He has a BA degree in Biology with additional majors in Philosophy and Classical Languages from St. Meinrad Seminary & College of Liberal Arts. He has two years of graduate work in Theology from St. Mary's Seminary & University. Finally, he is a professional member of the NTL Institute for Applied Behavioral Sciences and is an author and/or co-author of several books and articles.

George W. Foyo, Director

George W. Foyo is Chairman and CEO of LJ International, LLC, a management consulting firm serving corporations, which operate in the Caribbean and Latin American regions. LJ International specializes in providing strategic advice and implementation support to senior managers focused on growing and improving the long term profitability of their business. Foyo founded the company in May of 2002.

Foyo was previously President of DIRECTV Latin America, LLC, the company, which exclusively provides the DIRECTV service to Latin America and the Caribbean. Foyo joined the company in January 2000, and under his leadership DIRECTV LA became the leading broadcaster of pay television programming in Latin America. As President, he was responsible for the operational performance and profitability of the company, managing the company's regional and local operations in 28 countries. Foyo was also a Vice President of HUGHES, the majority owner of DIRECTV LA, and a member of HUGHES Management Committee.

Before joining DIRECTV LA, Foyo had already built a distinguished international career. From 1995 through 1999 he was President and Managing Director for AT&T's Caribbean & Latin America Region, responsible for all of AT&T interests in the region. Foyo was the architect of AT&T's regional strategy, which resulted in the acquisitions of several emerging telecommunications companies. He was also responsible for managing joint ventures and fully owned operations, as well as, the interconnection agreements between AT&T and the local telephone companies in 42 countries.

While at AT&T, Foyo held other major international and U.S. positions in the company. From 1992 through 1994, as Executive Vice President of AT&T International, he led the introduction of a new international business structure to accelerate the globalization of AT&T. In prior years, while in Europe, he was Managing Director and CEO of AT&T Microelectronica de Espana, a high technology, joint venture company between AT&T and Telefonica of Spain. He later became Managing Director and CEO of AT&T Microelectronics Europe, leading a regional marketing and sales organization operating in 6 countries. Upon his return from Europe in 1990, Foyo was named Vice President of Sales for AT&T's largest business customers, first in the Mid-Atlantic region and then in the South East region of the U.S.

Foyo is Vice Chairman of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, the largest national fund of its type in the U.S. He is also a member of various other boards involved in educational and economic development initiatives at the local and national levels. He has received many honors such as Outstanding Alumni, University of Illinois; Hispanic Engineer Hall of Fame, HENAAC; Executive of the Year, Madrid Chamber Of Commerce; and member of the AT&T Corporate Values Team.

Born in Havana, Cuba, Foyo earned a B.S. in Engineering from the University of Illinois, Chicago and a M.S. in Engineering from Purdue University, Indiana. He is married to Luisa and together they have four children.

Dr. Maria J. Nardone, Director

Maria J. Nardone, Ph.D., President and Founder of M Nardone Company is a licensed Psychologist. Her background is Mathematics and Psychology from Bucknell University. After receiving a Ph.D. in Psychology from Fordham University, she completed post-graduate certification at the William A. White Institute and received the qualification of The Tavistock Institute's Advanced Organisational Consultation Programme in London. She is the first American woman to receive this distinction.

As a psychologist and psychoanalyst, who has extensive experience in family businesses, healthcare and industry, she brings a multi-dimensional perspective to organizational consulting. Her web site is:

Jerry Walton, Director

Jerry Walton is an educator for the Chesapeake, Virginia public school system. A Mathematics teacher at Greenbrier Middle School, he is a member of the Partners in Education Committee, organized to build productive relationships with community businesses to enhance student education. He leads a Strategic Planning Action Team, building a roadmap for long term school improvements. He also sponsors a Stock Market Club, educating students through activities run by the Virginia Council on Economic Education.

Jerry is a retired Navy Captain. His naval experience included assignments on both coasts of the United States, in Washington, D. C., and around the globe. Among his assignments was a three-year tour of duty as commanding officer of a naval command in Japan, where he engaged in numerous cross-cultural activities with the Japanese and other members of the international community. While stationed in Guam, he taught Business and Communications courses for the Overseas Division of Los Angeles Community College.

Jerry has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from Vanderbilt University, a Master of Science in Communications Management from the Naval Postgraduate School, and a Master of Science in Education from Old Dominion University. He is a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and the National Education Association. He is married to Lindsay Malan Walton of Helensburgh, Scotland, U.K.
